Salammbô it's a historical novel written by famous French author Gustave Flaubert and published in 1862.
The plot is set in Carthage in the 3rd century BC just before and during the Mercenary Revolt which took place shortly after First Punic War. It is an extremely narrated story with many threads, double-crossing intrigues, and extensive battle scenes. Flaubert gives in Salammbô a lot of information with all the details on. Such as architectural details, military fitments, religious rites, or accessories.
Long paragraphs about a mercenary feast inspired the design of the dust jacket. I find it reflects the character of the whole book. On the one hand splendor and admirable wealth, on the other violence, suffer, and fall.
